The theme for Bay Area Earth Day 1997 was “Forests for the Future.” Because old-growth forests are dear to my heart, I was thrilled to design the identity and website for the months-long campaign. The 1997 site is long gone, but these navigational icons persist.
The website had the distinction of featuring Rainforest Action Network’s first-ever web-based activism, a boycott petition signed by tens of thousands of citizens. Online petitions are plentiful today but in 1997 this sort of functionality was very new to the web.
